Mykola Lysenko (1842-1912):
Elegie Op 41, No 3
Clark Bryan, piano

Dedicated to the People of the Ukraine during this darkest of hours. This Elegie is by the founder of the Ukrainian national music composer's school. He was a Ukrainian composer, pianist, conductor and ethnomusicologist. Lysenko was a pallbearer at the poet Taras Shevchenko's funeral, who is thought to be the founder of Ukrainian Literature and the Ukrainian modern language. I've included what I think is a fitting poem of Shevchenko's at the end of this video.
An Elegie is a mournful, melancholic, plaintive poem; a lament for the dead. I was searching for something I thought meaningful to share today and found this powerful work. It brought me to tears.
