To safeguard consumers from fraud and unfair activities, a number of Acts and orders are now in effect in India. In India, the introduction of the Agricultural Produce (Grading & Marking) Act, AGMARK, 1937 marked the beginning of quality control in agriculture industry.
Agriculture related and other produce must be graded and marked according to the Agricultural Produce (Grading & Marking) Act, 1937

AGMARK provides voluntary certification for grading and standardization for various food categories e.g. food grains and allied products, fruits, vegetables, spices, fibre crops etc. According to relevant Food Safety and Standards (Prohibition and Restrictions on Sales) Regulations and Food Safety and Standards (Packaging and Labelling) Regulations made under the Food Safety and Standards Act, 2006, AGMARK certification is mandatory for 8 food products in order to be sold e.g. Blended Edible Vegetable Oils (BEVO), Fat Spread, Carbia Callosa, Honey dew etc.
FSSAI and AGMARK certification are both different quality standards for food industry.
