I'm an old guy. Got out of knives for a decade or two... The last time I was into collecting, hard using and sharpening knives VG-10 was the new "super steel". I still love VG-10, mostly because of how easy it is to sharpen and it holds up pretty well.

Today is my 1st day with my Spyderco VG-10 knife, I am excited to test it. Good to hear that water stone is enough to get the steel sharp, I use water stones when sharpening my kitchen knives. Nice video!

VG10 is a great knife steel. I have no issues with it. Some companies overcharge for it though.

My Al Mare Sere was VG10! Loved it and love the steel! It’s fantastic!

Vg 10 is awesome. Easy to sharpen and keeps a good edge. My delica has vg 10 and I love it. Great video 👍

The truth is that the vast majority of knife enthusiasts rarely use their knives enough to really know how they perform. I'm not a sharpening fetishist so a steel that's relatively easy to touch up is always nice especially if I'm going to be using it in a way where edge damage is a possibility. Don't get me wrong I love the insane edge retention of my K390 and Maxamet. But Vg10/N690 gets it done for me and with having a number of Japanese kitchen knives with a VG10 core I know that it's plenty good enough in a everyday use.

In the range of VG-10 level of edge retention steels for edc, I quite like VG-10 as well as N690. Both hold up well through a night of work and both go right back to laser performance after a quick strop.

I don't have a problem with VG10. It takes a crazy sharp edge, and sharpens fairly easy. It won't hold an edge like K390, but it isn't bad edge retention either.

I just got the Stretch 2 in K390 last month, and I love that knife. It's one of my personal favs, and I wanted to edc the knife, but wanted to keep that model in good shape. So I ordered me another Stretch 2 in VG 10, bc it's easier to sharpen for edc value. I ordered one from Amazon Japan on sale for 67$ bucks. VG 10 stretch for 70$ bucks, how can I pass on that?

My chefs knives are AUS-8 at 58 hrc and VG-10 at 60/61, Japanese. The VG10 blows AUS-8 away in working edge but takes anfew more steps to get a good edge to the point i sometimes prefer AUS-8 since it just works off any stone available. Hard VG10 is a bit difficult to get right under pressure, less forgiving in high pace environment to get a keen edge with my amateur skill. Spyderco VG10 feels like AUS-8 compared to my chef knife. Much different hardnesses

VG-10 sharpens up quick even on Spyderco medium and fine stones. The King K80 works well too. You can definitely sharpen it on just about anything.

I think VG10 is welcome at the price point that spyderco has the delica, endela, and endura. Its most closely compared to 154cm but shit on infinitely more

Have you tried SPY27? If so, how do you feel it compares to VG10 in edge retention & ease of sharpening?
