In this video, I want to give you a quick way to know if you have brain damage. The truth is, everyone acquires some degree of damage in their brain as they age. This has to do with a lack of fuel in your neurons.

In one study, it was shown that the average person loses about 30% of their brain cells as they reach old age. This happens very gradually over time. The early signs of dementia can come on slowly—you might start forgetting where you put your keys or forget someone’s name.

When your neurons are starving of fuel, you will notice:
• Loss of memory
• Lack of clarity
• Loss of focus and poor attention span

This all comes from consuming a high carbohydrate diet. Over time, carbs cause insulin resistance, and glucose cannot supply the brain cells with energy.

Neurons actually prefer a different type of fuel: ketones. If given a choice between glucose and ketones, your neurons will choose ketones every time.

There are two simple experiments you can do to find out if you have brain damage:

1. Go on a healthy ketogenic diet and intermittent fasting plan, which promotes the creation of ketones.

2. Use MCT oil - this instantly creates ketones.

After 1-2 weeks, take note of your cognitive improvements. If there are significant improvements, this could be a sign of damage due to low nutrients in your brain. In this case, it’s important to stay on a keto and intermittent fasting plan. It may even help reverse damage done to the brain.

Where did my tub of margarine go? Been missing for 2 weeks.
I was diagnosed with dementia 4 years ago. Guess I’m lucky that I even noticed. I am going to start Keto and IF. I’ve been watching your videos for a while and not only do they make sense, you make them easy to understand. Thank you very much for caring and wanting people to feel their best.

This makes sense. I've been doing keto for 3 years and IF for 2 years. Before keto and fasting I was very worried that I was heading towards Alzheimer's, very forgetful, brain fog and depression, and now I'm sharper than I've ever been, no more brain fog, no more forgetfulness. I'm 55 and I'm healthier, sharper and happier than I've ever been.

Every day I thank Dr. Cherry for putting me on keto since I became pre-diebatic and Dr. Berg for his dedication to educate the public to take control of our own health. My cognitive power has improved dramatically and every brain damage described in this clip has happened to me. I will never get off keto/intermitten fasting as long as I live.

Just finished my third week of keto and IF and stumbled across this. Interestingly, I have noticed more mental clarity and better mood. Awesome stuff!

Make sure you sleep well or this may not be effective. Sleep is essential.

My grandpa passed away at 90 years old. His mental clarity was insane. So was his eyesight, his hearing, memory etc. It always impressed the family.
He ate grass fed foods all his life. He was cute in the way he would have a schedule; tea in the morning, after he would have homemade plain yogurt mixed with homemade bread, and lots of homemade soups with organic vegetables, a cup of warmed organic milk before bed. Its the little habits like that I remember.
He did fast 1 month of the year for Ramadan all his life. 😊

One thing a person can do to contribute to brain health is to drink water. The amount varies among people. The brain needs a minimum of 1/4 cup of water per hour to function the best. People might drink other liquids if they thirst. Liquids such as dairy milk, soda, coffee, beer, wine or juice. What the brain AND body need is water. When I'm teaching, I always bring lots of drinking water for students. I believe that learning is easier with a hydrated brain.

This must work. I've been largely avoiding carbs (grains in particular) for about the past 15 years. I'm approaching age 50 now and feel as though my mental sharpness has only been accelerating with time.

My brain has been improving and is sharper, focused, and I have more interests and hobbies especially after I retired. Life is beautiful and I know I am connected to the Creator of this magnificent Cosmos and all that we can see and enjoy in it... realizing the potentials I have for fulfilling one by one!

Keto is great, but had a slight negative effect with weight lifting. My strength suffered and lost lots of muscle mass. Switched back to IF and carb backloading and I feel tremendously better. Kept the weight off, I am leaner, but regained muscle amd strength. Everyone is different

I was a boxer on the Army world class athlete program that has PTSD and TBI. my diet was not what it is now so that didn't help. I was also starving myself regularly for making my fighting weight. My performance was below my standards badly.

Years later I started eating low carb higher fat. I now feel like I'm reborn. My mind is so sharp. My body is doing things people can't believe. Thank you for helping so many people. I found you later in my journey. But I still appreciate you very much for the informative and caring work you do.
