We visited Dambulla caves in Srilanka on the same day that we visited Sigiriya. Dambulla cave temple is the largest Buddhist cave temple in Srilanka. There are a total of 5 caves here with 153 Buddha statues of different sizes. There is also a huge reclining Buddha statue in one of the caves. Dambulla is a region located in central Srilanka. These caves were used for dwelling purposes in prehistoric times as revealed from the studies by various historians. A Srilankan king by the name of Valagama who was influenced by Buddhism converted these caves into Buddhist cave temples. Dambulla is the largest and best preserved cave temple complex in Sri Lanka.There are 364 steps which needs to be climbed in order to access the cave temple.
