How to install the JDK for java programming

Thanks for this tutorial !! I'm Restarting up now with Java (despite I hated it when I studied it for first time in computer degree)

Because at the time, Java came preinstalled on mac and you didn't have to do anything; now you just have to install it and it's done. On windows it's slightly different though.

The reason I use mac is because that is main operating system. Windows 7 was on a Virtual Machine.

I couldn't find it at first but than I added the \bin to the end of my compiler and it worked for me thanks! GingerGames

@Daikenki U have to type cmd in ur start menu then right click on cmd and click run as administrator. then when it asks u are u sure u want to do this( or wahtever else it says i forget.) u click yes and it should work. i also had that problem on other things.

I don't know if this has been covered but it might have been helpful for a lot of novice computer users to tell them that they had to enter into the command prompt elevated. Some commands can't be run unless as an admin. Otherwise, good tutorial.

@TheMooCows237 Don't install Java 7 yet wait for the official release. For a beginner, you will not notice the difference between Java 6 and 7. On mac, if java is already installed, then the JDK is as well. This is a tutorial for WINDOWS not MACINTOSH.

@GingerGames What do you mean by that? I found where to download it and it says you need to use that command to create the JavaVirtualMachines folder in your library. Then you download it and place something in the folder.

It might be different because I'm installing the 7th version.

Hey how do you install it on mac? When I enter the terminal command $> sudo mkdir it says permission denied

question if you set the path to the jdk ones, does it do somthin different to the computer, like somthin that works differently or some program that doesnt work

I have a 64-bit system, but my Java folder is inside the Program Files(x86) folder. If I look in the Program Files folder (not the x86 one), I cannot find a Java folder. Should I go with the Windows x64 or Windows x86 download?

I have some problems when I type javac after doing all the steps it says javac is not a executable command ? what should I do ? maybe it's because I'm using a french version of windows?

Ok I for some reason have two jdk1.7.0 ect. files one is _03 and the other is _05 Ive tried the steps in the video for both files which seem exactly the same but when I type javac in command prompt it still says it is not recognized as a command. Any suggestions?

I got the JDK, but when I try to run eclipse it gives me an error "A JRE or JDK must be not find Javaw.exe in PATH" I have 64bit JDK and have a 64bit pc"... Don't know what to do :(
