Follow the progress of my small UK north facing garden.

Day to day gardening, no instant fixes or big money planting going on here!

When will the sun be back in the garden?

This video shows how the sun enters the garden in March and leaves in October. Also the sun / shade of the whole day for the longest day of the year.

Nothing wrong with a north facing garden in this part of world. Noone uses gardens from Nov to March, then the NF virtually gets sun all day. Far better than an east facing imo.
Velux windows will sldo keep your kitchen very bright.

Thanks for video

I have a North facing garden too and i have done exactly the same as you. I’ve took photos on every sunny day of the year (almost) and at different times of the day too from sunrise to sunset from the bedroom above the garden. This is so useful for a North facing garden as we do have our challenges re the positioning of plants. I’m in Essex so I think we may have a similar climate too?
Good luck with the garden this year.

This is exactly the same as my garden. Ive put my patio at the northern end so it recevies sun most of the day. My lawn, like yours only gets full sun a few months of the year. My house acts like a huge sundial. I should paint hour markings on the road! 😂

It would be really great if you could also do it from the other direction facing towards your home x

Thanks for this video, very helpful indeed. Might be worth noting that midday isn't usually the highest point for the sun and for that you need solar midday, which varies throughout the year. In summer it'll be closer to 2pm whereas in winter it will be far earlier.

Don't be put off by a North facing garden in the UK 😊.
Mine's N facing and l'm fortunate that it's 90 ft long x 35 ft wide, so I get sun on the garden a little earlier and later in the year - from early February to late October.

This is such a useful video, as I just about to buy a small property with the back garden facing north. Is this the shadow from a house or a bungalow?

Happy New Year. 🎉
It seems an awful long time since we had sun doesn’t it?

Many thanks for replying - may I ask one more question? Your growing area is 7.5m long. But how far out from your building does that start. I am looking at a house with a north facing garden l.

I wish your garden shows some flowers 😅

How tall is the building? How do you know it’s not a short 1 storey with a flat roof?
