Small note to you all at TLDR US, this is exactly the content that will pull Americans like me in. Our TV news only loosely covers this, so when you bring history, contact, and current events in like this it’s informative and something I can happily share with friends

The oil crisis of the seventies should have been enough of a warning sign to the world that making your energy security dependent on the whims of dictatorships is a foolish arrangement. Would that the world's leaders had actually taken the lessons of those events to hearts instead of committing even harder to the same follies.

We've made ourselves vulnerable, all the oil producing countries are not necessarily friendly with the US and having such a dependence on a country we don't always agree with politically is dangerous. And by resisting alternative energy sources, its gonna really bite in the butt at times like this

Kingdom of Saudi Arabia is extremely smart and capable. They made the best decision for themselves as they always should.

Content like this that delves into the history and context, and not just the highlights of the moment, is the take that it’s harder to find in mainstream media these days.

Deciding to make Saudi Arabia a pariah state while actively reducing your domestic oil extraction probably wasn't a very bright idea.

If this isn’t a wake up call that the US needs to stop relying on oil I don’t know what is

Another reason democracies need to free themselves from fossil fuels as carbon fuels just promote autocracies..

As a US citizen, I think TLDR does a great job of presenting the US news without a political agenda, as you definitely aren't from the US. A lot of US news reports always have their angle, which gets very annoying tbh

I’m never getting that thumbnail out of my head now, thanks TLDR

As an American i find these kinds of videos, about the type of geopolitics with the simplicity and detail you don’t get in the normal news, super interesting

The US need Saudi Arabia not only for oil, but also for the denomination of oil trade in US dollars, which creates a huge demand for dollars, massively strenghtening the currency.
Regarding reasons for the Saudis to side with Russia, keep in mind that the Saudis are currently reselling Russian oil for a nifty profit.
