I used a lot of these exercises to rehab my pinky finger on my left hand after the end of it got pinched off in a oil rig “mishap”.
Dam near had me in tears for the first month. Great exercises for strength work on the left hand. Great video as always

I learned this exercise on Trumpet many years ago and never thought to apply it to bass. I need to look at my books for other coll things to work on. Thanks for the idea.

It almost sounds like you're playing some sort of classical tune. Very cool will definitely give this a shot!

Wow. My piano teacher made me do these same exercises to stren6my fingers, but I never thought to translate it over to the bass (and cello) for the same purpose.

Amazing that the sound of the metronome completely disappears because you're playing so steadily. That's my goal

I have a very serious question.
I have started playing bass in a band and am picking up on a lot of things pretty fast. My father who has been playing the bass for most of his life recently pointed out something about the way I play. He noticed that I sometimes use the RINGFINGER when playing notes, he says that I should absolutely not use the ringfinger ever, everything I do with the ringfinger should be done with the pinky. If you use the ringfinger it will look like you don't really know how to play(hasch words, right? that's my dad but he means well.)
So far I've only been playing things intuitively, whatever feels better, I have more strength in the ringfinger and the pinky I mostly use then my hand has to stretch out across wide distances along the fretboard.
I've been trying to find footage of bassists using the ringfinger but it's a detail so hard to spot just like that that I feel like, does it even matter? I understand when it comes to doing exercises like this the purpose is to strengthen your fingers. But I dunno, I originally played the guitar and I'm pretty sure you would sound pretty stupid if you went around telling guitarrists to not use their ringfinger so that's why I think it's such an asinine thing to get hung up on.
Tell me what you think! And great video!
