This video is a really good example of how to hear the difference of an "in time" vs "out of time" engine, when the timing isn't so off that piston/valve contact occurs.

This is what is happening to my 1999 k2500 7.4 Chevy suburban. Thanks for this video... Also it was low on power as well.

As a mechanic, I'll explain it in more simpler terms! A engine that's jumped time, but still runs, needs to be diagnosed as to whether it's jumped a few teeth on one or the other of its timing sprockets. In which case can't be repaired but only replaced instead. Or has simply gotten it's timing advance or derate out of adjustment at its distributor, which is a easy fix. The most common signs are.
Hard starting with quick, uneven, upward spiking when cranking over.
Unsteady idle, or misfire, with excessive engine vibration. Intermittent but steady popping noise at the exhaust pipe.
Noticeable loss of power and decrease of fuel mileage.
Excessive valve tick or chatter, especially during acceleration.
Changing a timing set can be difficult and labor intensive, and should only be attempted by someone properly qualified! Several factors go into getting the engine set precisely back into its proper timing position. There is no latitude for this because if the time settling is positioned just one or two teeth incorrectly, it can cause further internal damage, in just a matter of a few seconds!

It would help me if you could clarify the difference between the 2 cars. The first had a glottal sound around 2:36. The second car had a sound that seemed equally unhealthy around 5:06, but it was not during acceleration. I like your approach and your intent for this video.

If I jumped my chain on a 2006 F150 5.4L can that cause a " Crank No Start" ? Any help would be appreciated. Thanks 🇨🇦

Never ever rev a sick engine, you will bend the valves. Live data on decent diagnostic computer would show crank and cam signals have shifted. Not your best diagnostic skills!

ECM needs to be replaced or refurbished. Takes less than 30mins to remove and replace. ECM must be programmed specification to the car if replacing.
