Mansoor Ali Malangi was an alluring folk singer hailing from the Garh Morr District Jhang. Born in 1945, Malangi’s singing reflected distinct coloration of the region, his lyrics carried the poetic tradition and his songs were far more authentic than his contemporaries. In 1965, he launched his singing career from Radio Pakistan Bahawal Pur (With Famous Song Ik Phul Motiya Da Mar Ke Jaga), & Lahore broadcasting Punjabi and Saraiki folk music. One of the major beneficiaries of the cassette revolution, Malangi rose to popularity with his song ‘Ik Phul Motiey Da Mar Key & Kehri Galti Hoe Ay Zalim & Khan Ghara De Band Way Khana’. A prominent performer of the radio, TV, and stage, Malangi performed all over the world and has been awarded the President’s Medal for Pride of Performance for his services to promote folk music.
