How to setup a Synology NAS (DSM 6) - Part 2: The initial setup of the Disk Station Manager

Description: In this series of video's we take a look at how you perform a basic setup and configuration of a Synology, Network Attached Storage (NAS) device. This series of videos was created to try and offer a reference point to assist you in the setup of your own NAS.

Having reviewed the hardware and physically connected the NAS to a home network in our previous video. In this video we take a look at installing the DiskStation Manager onto a blank hard drive and we run through the initial setup process to connect the NAS to a network. Please note that during the video we skip the setup of Quick Connect and the Recommended Packages. We will be covering both of these options in future videos.

I've tried to use Camtasia using an external hard drive and Camtasia says that it won't work well with external hard drives. Have you found that Camtasia accepts your NAS RAID files for making videos?

I have Synology DS413 with 2Tbx4 HDDs which has only 500mb of data in them.
I would like to replace 4 ssd, 1T each.
Is it possible?

Question: I have a 2TB My Book Live and a 3TB My Cloud. Would I be able to buy a Synology diskless NAS and add the hard drives from my previously owned hard drives?

I am in the process of going through these excellent tutorials. I noticed that there was no discussion about creating one or more volumes. I assume that this tutorial did not include this because only one hard drive was installed in your example. Might be a good idea to add the volume topic as most people will populate their NAS with more than 1 drive. This is a problem because, for example, shared folders cannot be created with multiple drives until this is done.

just bought a 418play. Hooked it up used find sinology and web assistant doesn't find it. Had to go into modem settings and network to find the ip address and once I had that I was able to set it up. Tried a few times and the web assistant doesn't find it

I'd like for my NAS to also be able to store my parents, or others whom I approve data (who will be on a different network). Is this possible? To create some sort of web server?

Quick question if I may: Recently my father moved and at his previous residence I helped set up his NAS using your sublime tutorial. I set up a static IP address for his NAS at that location and today when I tried to reconnect his NAS at his new residence I noticed that his network/computer does not pick it up. Do you have any advice on what I can do to get his computer to locate the NAS at his new residence? I'm not certain he had an entire service change to his internet connection and am perplexed as to what to do next. Thank you again for your excellent service.

what do you do if the assistant can't find the nas? I've then tried to install the Synology assistant on my Mac, but it says that Mac will not allow me to install it because its not sure if its good for the computer.... HEEEELP
