The UK will face "blackouts" without building new gas power stations, ministers have claimed.

The government has said that while it will continue to move forward with its net-zero targets and a focus on renewables, gas was needed as a "back-up".

Failure to invest in the grid has meant that we are on the back foot Nuclear is expensive but is a more sustainable constant option with Sellafield able to recycle isotopes. Gas fired power stations would these be hydrogen powered. We are also heavily dependant on imports from France and Norway and Holland. What is not being pushed is the way that energy will be billed is changing next year with Market wide half hourly settlement giving suppliers so many different options to bill customers. But what is really needed is more constant sustainable power options.

Build gas powerstations, hydro turbines on every weir, tidal hydro on every bay. The UK has huge potential to produce energy but no will what so ever for long term investment

We had blackouts for two days straight where I live in Britain. In Bangladesh we had blackouts everyday on a daily basis. Why can't we have electricity without having any blackouts?

So why are we giving drilling permits to people who will never use in in Uk

Why not make gym equipment generate power to the grid or use tidal rivers to raise and lower huge floats etc 🤷

Gas Reserves in the United Kingdom
The United Kingdom has proven reserves equivalent to 2.6 times its annual consumption. This means it has about 3 years of gas left (at current consumption levels and excluding unproven reserves).

Britain is finished off.

Talked to, or listened to.
They are quite well known for conference speaking. Yet did she invite reasoned debate, or give a speech. We need clarity in these matters. They are skirting the line of being truthful. I can see it radiating from them.

Confused - I thought this government was paying £billions to our Chinese friends to build some nuclear power stations for us? That way we wouldn’t be reliant on gas prices 😂😂 p.s. how are we getting on building the 40 new Hospitals they promised?

Why gas powered ? Lol.
Lots of other options on the table.
Are we being denied or extorted over nuclear fuel ?
We did not choose nuclear for our aircraft carriers and we did not replace our reactors.
Have we fallen out of love with nuclear ?

UK can get gas from 3 places, the Scottish North Sea, Norway's North Sea and Russia.

But. But. But. Tom Heap, on the -Clown- Climate Show, told us that windmills and sunshine plates are the answer.
