Hot June Texas Garden Tour

It is hot here in Deep South Texas, but the garden is still looking productive. Sweet potatoes are taking over. The banana trees are way ahead of last year. The Cow Peas (Pink Eyed Purple Hulls nd Red Rippers) are in flower and producing pods. Red Onions are drying. Moringa leaves have been harvested. Trying our first watermelon of the year. Experimenting with growing wheat.

Beautiful garden, you could try wild rice in 5 to 10 gallon pot (pots with no drain holes must be e kept moist, doesn’t have to be flooded). Thank you for all the helpful garden tips.

Goodness, your garden looks great - consider me envious! I'm in San Antonio and, not only have we not had any rain on my side of town in more than six months, but we've broken temperature records of continuous, over 100 F weather - all of my tomatoes, squash, and cucumbers gave up the ghost, and I've only harvested two peppers. That said, my chili piquin is doing great, but it is in the shade. :)

That cold watermelon looked scrumptious. And the moringa looked amazing.
My eyes went cha-ching on how much money I'm going to save this year.

100f temps daily here. Squirrels stole all my plums and peaches, they took them unripe and i didn't get a single one! My tomatos and cucumbers are doing well, but we've had no rain for a while. There are 2 small pears left on a tree, but i'm sure they are just waiting for it to get bigger before stealing it. That watermellons looks good!

Never tried wheat, but I grow rye in the fall and winter as a cover crop to dig under in the spring.

If you have chickens or stock the sweet potato vines are edible, even for people. they are from the morning glory family. Regular potatoes are from the nightshade family.

Hey there. I’m close to your zone about 60 miles south of San Antonio. I planted Jubilee water melons in June and they seem to like the heat a bit better. I just now harvested a 30 lb one this week (July 23rd)
