I think I have a huge flex to make here. When I was a baby, Roberto saw my mom at the airport and went over to her and took me from her arms. He then proceeded to carry me around the airport telling people I was his son. To quote my mom: "I would have NEVER let anyone take you like that, but this man was just too charismatic".

Duran could come to your town, not speak your language, destroy your local hero and have people standing and cheering  for him as he takes the title back to his country. What other athlete do you know had that kind of charisma and loyal following? and he did in 5 decades. Duran was such a legend that even in his decline he packed the stands and people still came out to see the great "Manos de Piedra!"

Styles make fights, and he had every style. He could box, swarm, slug and defend himself. A natural-born warrior with Manson-like eyes. It must have been terrifying to face him at 135.

Roberto Duran is the manliest boxer ever.
He feared nobody and always fought with strength and pride.
I hope some of his fighting spirit will be passed to today's generation.

A true boxing legend and one of my top 3 favorite boxers of all time as well as being fortunate enough to have watched him fight in some of his fights at his prime. I feel bad for young boxing fans today who think some of the top boxers today are greats. They have no clue the battles that went on in boxing back in the days and the fights they missed. :(

My dad thinks pound for pound he's the greatest of all time and I agree, dude put fear in his opponents and rightfully so because he could take their best punch and eat it but they couldn't take his. He was an absolute monster.

HAHA. When he was younger he looked like such a nice kid. Somewhere along the way he developed that abused Pitbull look in his eyes. I wouldn't fight him with a sword.

His in- fighting was the best of the modern-day boxers. Defense was second to none. The most aggressive fighter of the 80s. Heart of a lion. He is a legend.

I used to watch Duran with my dad back in the 70’s and early 80’s. My dad was a golden glove champion boxer and he would talk about how mean Duran was. He was fun to watch definitely in one of the golden eras of boxing

They have it wrong here.  Pound for Pound Roberto Duran was and will always be the best of the best.  My childhood hero!  This man was fearless.
Unfortunately he acquired the "No Mas" Stigma from a knucklehead like Howard Cosell.
Roberto Duran was vindicated when he tore through Davey Moore and Iran Barkley.
God Bless you Roberto!  A true Latin and American Hero!

Duran said in an interview that he knocked a horse down "not out" for a bottle of whiskey and that he broke a finger doing it. I liked the way he would jump around with glee after destroying an opponent. I think he stayed boxing for so long because he absolutely loved it, not just for the money.
