Casual fans make up the majority of nba fan bases are drawn to Eye Test Players because they don’t require much understanding to be entertained by, whereas Non Eye Tests Players require more understanding. A casual fan can look at a player like Luka Doncic or Nikola Jokic(only choosing these two for recency)and think they’re boring and that they’re fat and need to look more like an athlete, whereas fans with a deeper understanding know those two carry more weight to use to their advantage, they don’t play the game with their bodies, they play with their mind and use their IQ to weaponise what a casual fan would assume is their “weakness”, Jokic and Luka use their slow speed to their advantage, they use their low verticals to their advantage, they use their slower/off beat rhythm to their advantage. Two Eyetest Players right now are Ja Morant and Kyrie Irving, casual fans look at these two and see the speed, the athleticism, the flare, the handles these two play with and are amazed by them, even fans with deeper understanding know they’re amazing, im not saying that fans who understand the game can’t appreciate Eyetest Players, they absolutely can, i’m just saying Eyetest Players will always have a larger volume of fans because casual fans and fans can appreciate them while Non Eyetest players require deeper understanding to appreciate.
