What's your take? Will Ship 26 go to orbit?

Mr Gerstenmaier - We build spaceships faster than the FAA and F&WS can do paperwork. Something is very wrong here.

At this rate Space x will continue to have new designs waiting on the outdated tech bottlenecked at the launch pads. How do we support streamlining the FAA’s involvement? What can citizens do to help?

I think that the new walled parking lot is dual service. Water mitigation and parking. The entire area is evacuated every time for operations. Meaning the lot is easily dual purposes.

A parking lot and deluge water retention pond are not incompatible possibilities. I doubt anybody would be parking there during a launch anyway.

Do we know what is contained in the next launch license? Will the license be only for launch two, or will it contain the license for future launches without having to repeatedly getting a new launch license approval. As you mentioned, will it be collectively for all Starship launches regardless of the location. Thanks for keeping us updated Felix. Love your channel!

The Raptor Engine is an Insanely Genius piece of Engineering. I knew all of this before, but damn, you just shed a whole new light on this topic. SpaceX is chock full of smart people.

Being in the Utility industry all I can say is, there’s nothing more hindering than Regulators. The state regulators get the need for expeditious permits, rarely delivering so, but aren’t even near the incompetence of the FEDS. The entire bureaucratic system of regulation needs a complete top down overhaul! It’s gotten out of hand.

Hey Felix and folks,
what do you thinks about the following idea?: As we all know, there are still two approvals pending for the flight of the Starship 25, on the one hand by the FAA and the FWS. The latter could delay their approval until next year. So there´s probably still some time left to spruce up the Starship with a mascot, as has already been done with the launch tower. How about proposing to SpaceX to apply the scheme of a gigant squid? And why do I (hopefully not only) find this getup more than appropriate for the upcomming or a future and similar mission? Well, the Starship shines, just like the loaf of the giant squid, metallic silver. What´s more, it´s supposed to be floating off the Hawaiian island of Kauai. But not only the hull, but also the shape of the rocket, especially that of the Starship, are initing. Another plus is the scientific name; Architeuthis dux, which means "ruler of the seas", and since SpaceX is animal-affine in the naming of its products (Falcon, Raptor, ect.), this should also fit. And, believe it or not, some squid species fly over the water (Up to 6 meters high and fifty meters far). In addition, this predator moves by recoil principle quite fast through the medium, emits a cloud (ink) and its "parrot beak" is in terms of bite a raptor in nothing inferior. I think evenElon might like that. And with a mascot that has three hearts in nature, whose complex "software" and "hardware" allow it to adapt to the givenenvironmental conditions by re-editing the genetic material by means of RNA, the fligh should be successful. Or? So a real analogue, which perhaps finds entrance as a short contribution in the next episode.
Well, how could such a huge picture look like? (A much smaller version, i.e. a squid on a schematically depicted starship with booster, could also look good). I have in mind to give the imaginary squid a fug in the following way. A simplified, schematic representation in plan view. The giant squid standing on its "head" ( which, by the way, is quite a natural posture for some squid) occupies the starship lengthwise with ita corpus. Its tail fin begins at the top of the starship and extends in a curved shape to the outer edges of the upper braking and steering surfaces. The head is located at its lower part with its huge eyes. On the booster, the tentacles snake downward, with the two extralong tentacles reaching to its lower base. The lower two braking and control surfaces should be visually "defused" with a dark "paint" or foil for the overall appearance. In this case, the overall paint application can be relatively small, since the rocket already gives the shape of the body. In this way, it could become its own licky charm.

Felix what a fantastic episode explaining the complexities of the raptor engine - It really is rocket science and you simplified it significantly, thanks.
I also appreciate you're patient insight trying to detail the bureaucratic incompetency for licensing.
It is more complex than the rocket engine and sadly they don't have the foggiest idea as to their impact on the industry or the outcome of mankind moving forward.
Thanks again this is one of the great episodes that should be flagged for the milestone archives. Great job!
(I am a 77 yr old heavy construction engineering mgr. I have had to deal with beaurocratic incompetency all my life. It is the greatest drain on our GNP as a country's advancement and debt accumulation. Pls keep hammering on them!
The majority of them are academics, never built a thing in their life, yet feel the power of position to make themselves look good and justify their existence.
😖🥶😠

Felix, three observations:
1) Great thumb nail explainer on rocket engines and the Raptor.

2) I don't understand how SpaceX can call the test on S26 a deorbit burn when 1) the cold of space was not replicated (unlike the recent Raptor test at McGregor) and 2) zero gravity or micro gravity wasn't present. They didn't even run the test on a R Vac (which makes sense given the ambient air pressure at the stand but certainly isn't starting in space) Seems to me this was a simple static fire test with PR spin.

3) Great to see the parking lot but you didn't mention the water deluge test with enhance capabilities on Oct 22 or 23. It would have been great to see where all that water went especially without firing Raptors to make steam. Did it get to the parking lot (a dual purpose facility)? I wonder what the FWS thought of the demonstration if they were still at the launch site.

Great episode! Thanks for everything. You rock! Also Spacex is set to launch the first cows into space. It will be the herd shot round the world.

The more the Feds are involved the further out I think it will be. I'll revise my original October bet to June now. This way I can be surprised when it flies again.

Great episode! You tied everything together so that it all makes perfect sense.

The parking lot could serve double when the deluge system is active and a catch basin helpful. It would be smart if spacex did this and recycled the captured water, filtered and reused it. It would reduce time between launches, lower water purchase and transport costs, and mute fish and game worries about potential environmental harm. Plus it might keep the lot cleaner! Lol

Actually, those are lines showing the water where to park.

I think a good comparative reference would be the development of the Saturn V. When you do, you’ll find that Space X, is actually coming along just fine.
