One “but but but” on Garrett’s rant at the end about old ball technology and saying that people may not be able to hit a fairway etc. The argument against that is that people DID play fairways a greens back in the days and did it with clubs that played like a crooked stick compared to modern clubs. Players from the early 1900’s were incredible athletes and probably far more skillful as a general rule.

Great video and it was fun to see a youngster play with the old tech balls. There is no question that newer technology in equipment makes everything more forgiving and shrinks the golf course. Garrett is a super player and has handled old tech stuff well (especially old clubs). The boy can play.

The size and weight of the ball was labeled because at that time there was 2 different size balls. The American 1.68 ball and the British 1.62 ball. It wasn't until 1974 that the american ball was deemed the standard...and 1990 when the R&A finally did away with the 1.62 ball.

GET you some Titlelist 100 Tour Balata golf balls and watch them spin back 20 to 30 feet on your wedge shots! Its what we played with back in the 1980's & 90's! They were so much FUN!

Sploosh! Keep going my man! I personally love seeing you play because you're at least a bit closer to a normal everyday golfer, even though you'd beat me by at least 10 if you played the tips and I played the front tees. Great video idea!

Good job guys. Would prefer to see Garrett do the same match but with 1980's Titleist Balata, Golden Ram Balata or Maxfli Balata balls. Would be great to see you have to deal with massive amounts of spin and balls that actually go out of shape when you hit them!

For everyone saying Sploosh isn't a 4 handicap or any of their handicaps are wrong clearly don't know how the handicap system works. Just because you're a 4 doesn't mean your average score is a 76. I'm a 5 and I'll break 80 like 1 out of every 3 rounds. It only counts your best rounds. To start your handicap you submit 5 scores and it takes your best score. It only accounts for your top 20% scores which is why someone like garret's is so low, cuz he goes super low every few rounds. The bad scores are basically erased in the handicap system.
