The Miraculous Medal Shrine will host its first-ever Spanish Family Celebration in honor of the Feast of Our Lady of the Miraculous Medal on November 5 from 9am to 2pm. Most Reverend Alfonso Cabezas Aristizábal, CM, Bishop Emeritus of Villavicencio, Columbia, will celebrate Mass for hundreds of Hispanic Catholics from the Philadelphia area after a procession with the statue of Our Lady of the Miraculous Medal and the Rosary and Novena prayers. Pilgrims will have the opportunities to walk through the Holy Door of Mercy, receive the Sacrament of Confession and the Anointing of the Sick, and be invested in the Miraculous Medal. The fair-like atmosphere will entertain families with food, musical groups, dancing, religious items for sale, and face painting as well as provide the occasion for attendees to share testimonials of how the Blessed Mother impacted their lives. Additionally, donations of personal care items will be collected for the people of Venezuela.
“This is the first time in more than 100 years that we are celebrating the Feast of Our Lady of the Miraculous Medal in Spanish at the Shrine,” said Claudia Strohm, Director of Latino Development. “This is Mary’s house, a place of great devotion for people from many different places. Her sanctuary here has become a meeting point for Hispanic Catholics of the Philadelphia area, a place of evangelization and prayer to the Lord through Mary, who asks for His grace so His children will receive His mercy.”
In addition, Masses and Novena prayers in Spanish are celebrated the first Tuesday of every month at 10:30am and 7pm at the Miraculous Medal Shrine. For more information in Spanish, please visit the Spanish Facebook page Familia de la Medalla Milagrosa de María.
