That's one of the biggest smack down mic drops I've ever seen in a Christian debate lol

I remember when I first learned the Latin phrase “con fide” and how we get our word confidence from it. It is the same as if you were to go to someone you trust and you confide in them about some secret or private thing, you have faith (not an empty belief, but based on your relationship with that person, a certainty) that they will not tell anyone else about the thing you discussed.

To have faith (con fide) in Jesus is to be confident that even though we are imperfect, Christ is perfect and when He says He will give all who come to Him eternal life, we can have confidence that He will keep that promise. In a world where people often break promises, we serve and worship and God who does not.

That look on Bruce’s face when confronted with the etymology of “confidence”. The look of defeat can lead to a softened heart ready to accept the truth. Amazing.

Such an epic moment. The look on his face was the best. The silence of the Lord.

Do not speak to a fool, for he will despise the wisdom of your words.

That was the best 'smack down' I have seen in a long time. Why do non- Christians have problems with the world 'faith!? They must carry a negative world view of that word & the people who have & keep it. Amen.

I urge everyone who reads this to question everything and make their decisions based off of the most unbiased information they can find available to them.

Learning the etymology of words often helps you better understand their meaning. Con fide, confide, confidence...conscience, con + science, "with knowledge"

Confidence is a belief in oneself or one's research and/or conviction that one has the ability to meet life's challenges and to succeed—and the willingness to act accordingly. Being confident requires a realistic sense of one’s capabilities and feeling secure in that knowledge.

The word "confidence" does indeed have Latin roots. It comes from the Latin word "confidentia, " where "con-" means "with" and "fidentia" means "trust". Trust and Faith have distinct nuances in meaning. While they share similarities, trust often involves reliance on someone or something based on experience, reliability, or evidence, while faith typically involves a more subjective and belief-based confidence, often in the absence of concrete evidence.

In the context of the Latin root "fidentia" in "confidence, " it can be more closely related to trust, emphasizing a sense of reliance or trustworthiness rather than the more nuanced and subjective aspects of faith. Therefore, a more accurate interpretation of the Latin roots of "confidence" might be "with trust" rather than "with faith."
