In this video, I want to share with you the simplicity of why people can’t lose weight.

Fat burning explained:

The large battery — is equivalent to fat (about 100,000 calories of potential energy)

The medium battery — is glycogen (about 1700 calories of potential energy)

The small better — is carrying around 15 calories (1 tsp. of sugar for the blood sugar to be normal)

The above are the three types of fuels that you run your body on. Wouldn’t it make sense to tap into fat? The average person rarely gets to tap into fat and lose weight simply because they don’t understand this one simple thing.

There is a switch that tells the body which fuel it’s going to burn. When you reduce insulin, you can tap into fat.

What controls insulin?

1. The amount of carbs you consume
2. How many times you eat in general

These two things increase insulin and keep you from fat burning. An average American consumes over 250-300g of carbs per day. To burn fat, you need to reduce that number to less than 50g.

When you chronically consume a lot of carbs, you start to develop damage to this switch. This is called insulin resistance. This makes it really hard to tap into fat even when you do things correctly.

When you’re on the right eating plan, and you decrease your frequency of eating, it could take time to fix this switch. The key is sticking to it until the switch is fixed, so you can tap into the fat and lose weight.

The best thing to do is to focus on other indicators of health. It’s get healthy to lose weight, not lose weight to get healthy. For example, if your hunger and cravings are going down and your energy is going up, that means it’s working, and you just need to give it more time.

To combine lowering your carbs and not eating too frequently, you need to try healthy ketosis and intermittent fasting.

" In the presence of Insulin, fat cannot be burned."  These words have stuck with me for over a year now from one of your older videos,  in which you opened a big medical book and read from it.  Thank You !!! <3

A little over a year ago I started keto. I lost 60lbs and I've kept it off. In October I had major abdominal pelvic surgery. The huge wound was left open to fill in and I had to wear a wound vac. I was warned it could be January or longer before I healed enough to go back to work. The doctor told me to eat a lot of protein to help me regrow tissue. I explained that I already do that with keto. They just nodded and didn't seem impressed. BUT... At every doctors appointment afterwards they were increasingly shocked with the speed of my healing. At my appointment last week I was told I can return to work next week... The specialist said that my healing was more than a month ahead of what they see in most patients. I can't swear this was due to keto but I strongly believe it had a big role... especially my morning coffee with my powdered MCT oil creamer that also includes collagen & probiotic acacia fiber. They had pushed a certain protein supplement but it had a lot of sugar (didn't taste good either) & I could do the same with what I already use... and it worked! 💖

Exactly! It's all about the insulin. Once I understood that and the tools like intermittent fasting and healthy ketosis to get insulin down, I lost 60 pounds in like 3 months. New clothes and new foods! Thanks again Dr. Berg.

Absolutely one of the best analogies you’ve used to explain insulin resistance! Another grand slam! Thanks for the awesome teaching. I’m a retired healthcare educator and have a great appreciation of how long it takes to reach people!

Your videos have helped me so much. I've lost over 60 pounds following you. I was at 390 and following Omad plan I lost 65 pounds in about 6 months. Then there was a stall, so looking for help I found your channel and have been doing great. I incorporated IF with Keto. I lost an additional 125 pounds. I'm currently at 260 and looking forward to 225 soon. I now know how to lose weight and keep it off. Thank you, you have been a beacon of hope and a God sent.

I have been following your plans/books since Sept 1st. For the prior 6 months, I was walking 2 to 3 hours every day, fast paced-Im talking anywhere from 13 to 15 miles daily, and watching what I ate, low fat/med carb and felt like I was killing myself while trying to get rid of the last 20 lbs and rolls of fat-couldnt get out of a size 10 and waist was snug. I was drained and depressed and knew I couldn't add any- more walking time. Researching for a better way, I found you and you saved me. After just 3 months I lost the 20lbs and rolls of fat and am in a size 6 now-waist loose skinny Levi's. I'm happy and feel wonderful, with no even over Thanksgiving. Thank you for all you do for us!!

Excellent analysis. I met someone yesterday that went vegan. She said she gained weight, because she was eating too many carbs and not enough vegetables. She gained 30 lbs. I need to get into your videos to see what you think about being vegan or a vegan on keto.

Great video.

Switching from a high-carb to a keto-diet was a super interesting process. First, I dropped 4-5lbs in the first 2 days (glycogen and water) but didn't see any difference in my waist circumference. After my glycogen was burned-up my waist circumference got slimmer and slimmer every day.

This is definitely the best description of this process! Thanks once again for educating all of us!
