I've been in Education since 1988, both high school and university (retiring professor.) I have been fighting this nonsense since I began, as privatizing Education (like Healthcare) is the fastest route to plutocracy and oligarchy, which we already have to a large degree. Vouchers mean that a child attending a school that is $25, 000 (on the low end, ) will receive at most, $5, 000, as the point of privatizing is to get the government out of Education, so funding will be minimal. That means that a family with 3 children will have to decide which one(s) can be educated, if even one is possible. The current system of Education funding based on Real Estate taxes is already a disaster, but getting rid of all public funding, therefore public education, is a sure path to plutocracy, fascism, and the abandonment of all principles of opportunity preached by the right over the past 50 years. They obviously meant, and mean, opportunity for only a select group.

Having gone to public school across 3 countries, my parents couldn't afford to send me to private school. Luckily I was in more generous and better educated countries until I was 14. But if public schools were banned, my education would've stopped upon moving to America in the 9th grade. Think about that... tons of people with less education would only make America an absolute hellhole.

Nothing I mean nothing public should be private. Water, sanitation, schools, healthcare, prisons, ect anything that provides services for the public should not be for profit business it just becomes corrupted. On that same note public works should also be watched carefully for corruption and/or being used inappropriately.

Over the last 100 years where Public Education (mandatory K-6 started in 1918) has been in place the U.S. has become both a technology and economic leader. Public education systems created the minds that gave the country advances in Medicine, Engineering, Technology, Science, and Business. The vast majority of people working in various industries were educated via public schools. Public funding (taxes) of public schools has benefited everyone in this country.

Kennedy (Lisa Kennedy Montgomery) went through the public education system herself (K-12) and attended a state college (Santa Monica College and UCLA). So she is condemning her own educational background. She is confused and an idiot.

And the whole idea of "School Vouchers" is from the Betsy DeVoss "school" of thought. Vouchers are just a way to funnel tax money to religious schools, which violates separation of state and church. You want to send your child to a private school (religious based or not) then that is your decision and you can pony up the money to do so. I don't want my tax money going to that. I pay my taxes so other people can have the same opportunities I had for education when I was young. Just as my parents and my friends parents paid their taxes so myself and others had a shot at an education. Pay it forward, others did it for me and I'll do it for others. It's called leveling the playing field, and we all benefit from that.

How about no PRIVATE schools!!! EVERYBODY HAS to go to public schools...no more discrimination in the education system anymore?!? It would be amazing how quickly public schools would be finally funded the ways they actually deserve!
