WWDC 24: Apple Intelligence & iOS18 From An Android User Perspective

WWDC ‘24 kicked off this week with an exciting keynote at Apple headquarters! Apple introduced their version of AI, calling it Apple Intelligence, along with updates to their operating systems including iOS18. As a devoted Android user, how does their AI model and new OS updates compare to what we’re familiar with? Some of my opinions may surprise you!

No one can dispute the success Apple has had with their highly integrated devices and economy. It works very well, and the more Apple devices you own, the better the experience. The tech has never been their limitation. The reason I moved away after the iPhone 4 was I became uncomfortable with being locked into a single company. Forty years of experience in IT has taught me that trusting all your eggs to a single basket is usually a mistake.

I wouldn’t mind seeing some more content from the Apple ecosystem, just to get a more balanced viewpoint. I wouldn’t expect it to become a primary feature of the channel, but stuff like this video is good. :)

I like the "outsider's" perspective on this stuff. So many Youtube channels cover only one or the other sides of the mobile devices fence. I became an Apple user when I decided Google was capturing too much information about me, especially in concert with them being the largest advertising platform in the world. I know I could have de-Googled a Pixel, etc., but then I would lose the ability to use banking apps, connect to my workplace (I know, I know, but I work and live in the real world for now and don't want to lug around multiple phones with separate data plans), etc. Apple seems like an ok alternative in that light. Anyway, keep up the good work.
