The cinching system resembles that used in Salomon ski boots, first introduced around 1980. You could have a good deal of space in front of the toes with those boots, and it wouldn't make much of a difference because the top of the ankle was being held down. The fit was based on instep volume, as opposed to foot length.

"let the foot do what it would naturally do"... this works with running but is it written somewhere that for million years of evoluton the human was always riding the bike?? so the foot should have additional external support... even in running to make it faster thought the running is more natural activity
