In this tutorial, we take a look at using sub kicks and textured snares to create a typical lofi hip hop beat. We then look at group processing in Ableton Live, using sidechain compression (AKA ducking) to help our drums punch through the mix.

Is there any way to do the pumping sound technique you talked abt at the end ? Hopefully with logic pro x internal plugins?

Great tutorial! Question on the placement of the kicks and snares, they seem to fall off grid in lofi a lot. Is that actually what’s happening, and if so how do you determine how far off beat each note is?
