If it looks like a router, routes like a router, and quacks like a router... It's probably a switch

-Wonderful content ... !!!
-When I won Juniper courses and certification exam, I had to stop the Cisco study for CCNA to understand Juniper, I realized that in 2012 they changed their philosophy by dividing the Routing Plane or Routing Engine (RE) into their devices, of the Forwarding Plane with the decision part (RE) being able to be independent and run multiple different instances on separate VMs on the device, and at the time I only understood the advantages at the individual device level, why they did not charge SD-WAN on JNCIA-JUNOS.
-When I went back to studying Cisco I understood that Cisco (and see SD-WAN) is evolving towards this same philosophy, due to the SD-Wan that they implemented with having a central intelligence much more powerful than a discrete local device can be on servers in different VMs (the controllers) in parallel to the intelligence of the local device.
-My perception is that Cisco with the absorption of Viptela and the launch of the Cisco SD-WAN in 2019 follows this philosophy.
-I understand more and more that SD-WAN is the future of the most responsive networks with their own AI, and with each new Cisco launch I see this stronger trend.
-A few months ago Fortinet launched their SD-WAN and the biggest network companies they were the last to follow this line.
-I foresee this trend in the not too distant future that tendency for Layer 2 and 3 devices to merge more and more with the high decision functions being dealt with in central processing (controler) with only one backup on the local device, which is the SD-WAN.
-Thanks for the teacher knowledge ... !!!

We just had our Cisco C8300 unit delivered yesterday at work. We're in the process of having it provisioned with our MPLS provider which will be replacing our Cisco 3945 router.

HI David
I remember teaching myself "Cisco" using the 2500 series Routers and the Catalyst 1900 Switch, .The switch was originally from a company called Grand Junction and used it's own OS before Cisco "standardised" on their IOS.
