Scotty Anchor Lock | My Fishing Essentials

Scotty's anchor locks are really handy. You must have them for lake fishing if you wish to keep your boat stationary in the wind. These anchor locks make pulling the anchor rope a lot easier as well as securing the rope tightly when the boat is anchored.

I have one on each end of my canoe and these things are fantastic. Pyramid on one, spade on the other with 75 feet of high quality 3/8 anchor rope for both. It's great to be able to drop either just the front or the back depending on which way I want to face, or I can drop both and she'll hold broadside to the wind or current no problem.

Quick notes - Remember to tie the end of your anchor lines to the boat (or put a big knot on the end) so you don't accidentally lose an anchor while dropping it in deeper water than expected. And use good expensive rope with good abrasion resistance, doesn't matter if it sinks or floats because it should be tight when in use. And if you have a bigger boat make sure you plunk these anchor locks into good strongly mounted scotty flush mounts or deck mounts, the little gunnel clamps and rail mounts might not always be strong enough.

If you are using the anchor lock system on a kayak, is there a quick release if a fish gets tangled up or there is an emergency situation. I haven't heard anyone talk about that in any of the videos I've watched, thanks for your response.

I had one come apart on me last year, but, it was 12 yrs old and had been used under lots of nasty conditions with 25lb anchors.I think they are well worth what they want for them.

On the bow, Rod, did you through bolt the anchor mount or screw or rivet? Any marine sealant? Thanks man

You think this would be okay for a 25# anchor off a raft in some pretty tame rivers?

I have a 12ft inflatable. Are 10.5lb pyramid on the bow and 15.5lb pyramid on transom enough? Thanks

Essentials... I love it. The list of essentials is limitless for fishermen. It's like a black hole. I like that lock I'll have to get some!

It can't accommodate a chain at the front of the anchor rode. I have one on my 14' Lund SSV. I have a small Danforth and a heavier river rake anchor for lakes and rivers respectively.

Okay, I'm curious/ concerned about the lock. You use a 20# anchor. My concern is the post, specifically breaking point. You stated any weight can be used. I run a 35# anchor and tie off on the front. I'm worried that this could break, especially for the fact that I live in a windy area as well as fish in rivers...big rivers in Idaho. Thoughts? Thx!
