I grew up on Sanford Avenue. I saw my building when you drove by. Main Street and Sanford used to have a GreenPoint Savings bank on the corner back in the day. Thanks for the memories.

I don’t recognize this part of Main St. As a preteen we would take the Q84 ( not sure of the no.). We would get off the bus giddy from the money in our shoulder bags. How “grown up”we felt to be someplace different than home and at the same time, very familiar. The first thing to be decided was do we go into Gloria’s Pizza or go shopping first and eat at Gloria’s while waiting for the bus back home? It was tricky if you decided to wait you might miss your chances at the pizza if your bus was waiting, there’d be no time to indulge. I think most often we would forego the pizza first and go Shopping! The was Gertz Department Store, and a huge Woolworths next door to the more modern Gertz We would look at all the make-up and shiny things in cbins and on top of tables. We might chose to sit at the large Woolworth’ soda counter with the bright red cushion that my thighs almost always stuck bright red swivel seats and get a cold drink before undertaking your march to The Bead Place. Where you could pick out beads to make your own earrings. There was a denim store downstairs.

we allused to live off of Northern Blvd near Main St. Tt. was my first home away from my parents’ home . I had an apt in a very old Pre-War building. It had big gargoyles. I loved it! I would walk to Main St weather permitting..Along with hundreds of other commuters stuff myself into the IRT#7. I worked at 28th and Broadway
