Показать описание
On 9 October 2024, the United Nations Human Rights Council in Geneva adopted a resolution extending the mandate of the independent international fact-finding mission (FFM) for the Sudan for a period of one year.
The resolution was introduced by the United Kingdom, also on behalf of Germany, Norway and the United States of America.
The United Kingdom said he situation is Sudan today is appalling and that the Sudanese people needs attention and accountability. The FFM is the only independent and impartial mechanism monitoring the situation as the national mechanism in the country is neither independent, not impartial.
Sudan said the national commission of enquiry is a competent body and that it should not be imposed an external mechanism. It totally rejected the resolution and, as a member of the Human Rights Council, called for a vote and called on all Council members to vote no.
The resolution was adopted by 23 in favour, 12 against and 12 abstentions.
