The thing that gets me about the active shooter drills is like if the shooter is a student they will know exactly where to go 😭

My physics teacher (Mr. Boykin) said that the drills are shit, and I do too. He said if the shooter comes on campus, all his students going out the emergency door in his room out to the streets near the school which have gas stations and Fast food around. He was old like maybe 60, we asked what he would be doing and he said "I'll climb up on my counter by the door and take my fire extinguisher and wait for him to come through the door"

Best teacher I've ever had. Hope he's doing ok

I remember this! My cousin talked about his school drill, and not gonna lie, it's bullshit, every classroom in his school has either an exit or a window that can be opened wide enough for a fully grown man to fit through, and rather then evacuate (even if it is in that bullshit single file line they try and drill into us) no, they want students to hide under desks and stand in the corner and throw books at the shooter if he enters the classroom, I looked my cousin dead in the eyes and told him "if you hear a school shooter is in the building, fuck the drills, I want you out that window and half a mile away before the first shots ring out, Forrest Gump style you hear me?"

There's nothing worse than school shooting drills besides understanding the fact that you're teaching the kid who is going to shoot that school up exactly where everyone is going to exfil and harbor at
You know the pathways of least resistance and most resistance
You know what precautions they take and what counter measures to prep for before they take those measures

Kid can literally be going through the drill just taken down notes and you would be like wow Billy you're doing such a good job being very astute

Those drills would 100% not save you, if anything it's basically gathering everybody up like a fish in a barrel. The intruder could easily bust through a locked door. I brought up this point and my teacher said "Oh they probably would just want to rob some stuff and leave quickly before law enforcement shows up so if a door is locked they will probably move on". Like no b*, you don't go in a school to rob stuff, if somebody is in the school with a gun it's because they have given up on life and want to shoot some people up! 100% would jump out a window or move someplace where I could more or less safely jump; huddling up under a desk like sheep in a small room is not going to help.
