Firebird is based on a true story - see movie credits at end of film - such a shame he took his own life, no longer able to live a lie, knowing they can never be together - his goodbye letter lets us into his thoughts... beautiful acting

I love Firebird. I keep waiting to find Bent (1997) on one of these lists. It follows Max, a gay Jewish man who was captured by the Nazis and forced to kill his boyfriend on the train to Dachau. There, he meets another prisoner who teaches him about love, expression, personal power.
