Thursday, December 18th 1975.

Footage of Dr. Jonas Savimbi, the leader of UNITA (the National Union for the Total Independence of Angola) appealing for military aid in the struggle between three African Liberation Movements after the withdrawal of Portugal, the former colonial power.

Speaking at a press conference in Kinshasa, Zaire, Savimbi appeared to be directing his plea to the United States, which was concerned about Angola being taken over by the Soviet-backed MPLA (Movement for the Liberation of Angola).

"Here they come.. here they come my brothers, Fight my brothers"
"Mason, target the mortar crews"
"There are weak, we must finish them"

Absolutely not. I went to Angola multiple times during that bloody civil war. Savimbi himself during his bloody purge decimated unita of its best and brightest even before the 1992 Halloween massacre in Luanda. Brilliant man who simply refuses to accept second place. That choice cost him and Angola so much.
