Funnily enough, that's probably the right choice. He kept the father from taking a physical form, and kept him safe from being killed. By making Davoth take a form, he wasn't safe from being killed

To be fair, the Father is the reason Davoth when all Dark Lord to begin with. Instead of alleviating his worries that is creations would fail, he betrayed him, which sent Davoth on a fanatical spiral, which in turn cause Hell to be a thing. All Davoth wanted was immortality for his subjects.

I absolutely love the camera angle here, when he approaches the sphere, you can see Davoth’s sphere just behind, and when he picks it up, it fully reveals Davoth’s sphere. As if to say “the real creator is right there”
