I wish money and health could be separated 💔

One of the first things my trainer told me is to stick to the outside aisles at the supermarket. The least amount of "junk food" is around the outside. Think about it, fruits & veggies, seafood, meats and dairy all around the outside.

When I was 16 we had a period where we talked about “product placement” for marketing classes, and as an extension of that, we also looked into supermarkets, and why they had specific things in specific places, and it was actually really fascinating

The Slim Fast, Keto milkshake candy aisle gives me a headache.

Edit: I started thinking about the Keto part of this comment, earlier today, and I remembered that I know some people who can’t have sugar. I think the candy would be a good replacement for other sugary candy. Just a thought.

Don't go while youre hungry. Go with a gameplan of what you need. Get in & get out. Using a click list is usually pretty easy for me to also stick to exactly what I need and no extra.

This is why I love Aldi, only one or two brands of a products, no searching up and down the aisles for that one thing, I’m spending no more than 20 minutes there, and my grocery bill each trip hasn’t even broken $100.

As someone who worked in a grocery store, it is indeed very deliberately designed. All the healthy stuff is placed farther away to force you to see more the store to get to it. You literally have to walk through a *bakery* to get to the produce section.

It's common to see customers come to checkout with loaded carts, saying "I only came here for one thing."

One thing I wish was more regulated is supplements. I’m anemic and need iron, B12 and Vitamin D supplements, I wish they weren’t full of fillers.

This also explains why dads go to get milk and never come back

My physiology professor ranted about this on the very first day of my first lecture. He made a table showing how much of a supplement or vitamin the body needed vs the amount of that is in the supplement.
The end of the lecture had a slide of a man smiling, giving a thumbs up. With the caption. " congratulations. You are literally pissing out your money"😂😂

I actually am glad that she said supplements and health claims. Its a problem that people arent telling their PCP that they are taking them which inpacts what meds and treatments can be taken/done.

I have found that ordering online for a pickup has helped me a lot in avoiding all the junk and impulse buying. When I do actually in person shop I stick to the perimeter.

My daughter works for a 3rd party that checks product placement for brands. She scans stuff in grocery stores and gas stations because brands pay to have their products in specific locations and they pay this 3rd party to verify that. So you know its got to be worth their $$ to do that!

A majority of grocery stores in my city have either removed or severely limited the amount of small shopping baskets available to customers. It forces us to us a large size shopping cart, knowing that we will fill it up more with groceries that we don't necessarily need and also heavier items that we would not pick up with a smaller basket thus we spend a lot more to benefit their profits!...

I stopped taking workout supplements a few months ago and resolve to just getting my nutrient intake solely through food. I actually feel the effect for the better. I only buy essential ingredients and stable foods at grocery stores.

What I specifically notice about product placement is that in the snacks isle ranging from gummies to few-ingredient snack bars, the ultra-processed and colorfully packaged ones are down lower where its more convenient for children to reach 🧐😒. Just like toddler toys being placed at cart height. Its smart, it really is. Just unfortunate.

Kids are so vulnerable to product placement and advertising and not all parents set buying boundaries for kids.

And what is ALWAYS for sale at checkout counters? Candy!

This is one of the reasons I have my groceries delivered. Besides my disability issues, while ordering online I simply search for what I need and that’s that. No passing tempting end caps or temptation items at checkout. I get what I need and that’s it, all from the comfort of my own home.

I do hate that so many doctors are so anti supplements. I have a severe vitamin d deficiency and absorption issues, and my doctor even has it in my file that I need to be taking 8, 000 units of vitamin d a day (and I have needed to for 15 years now) If the supplement industry wasn't there, I would struggle to afford or source something that changes my quality of life. I also started taking a regular multivitamin just three months ago, and I can't believe how much better I feel since I've been taking it. There are good and useful things about the supplement industry, they've just gone a little out of control, unfortunately.

I work in marketing and yes we pay 2-5 times more for the middle shelf and the end-cap of an aisle for visibility. the whole planogram is not by accident.
