How the score for the weight of the shoes is given? You gave a score of 7.5 for the La Sportiva Cyklon (277 g) and a score of 6.5 for Nike Terra Kiger 8 (260 g). Very inconsistent system of scoring and not only for the weight...

QD: from a running perspective, I would tell myself to run more during the winter to make sure your base is built for spring.

I stopped buying Nike decades ago, but will try one on every once in a while to see if they caught up with other companies. Racing shoes aside. The fit and weight are like trying to run in basketball or tennis shoes, there are so many better running shoes from other companies I don't know why anyone bothers with Nike trainers. And their trail shoes? Like an afterthought, "everyone else offers trail shoes, let's cob one together so we can be in that market". This isn't a brand-hate on Nike, Bowerman was a family friend, and Dad and I both ran at UofO. Nike just needs to work more on their offerings for RUNNERS again, other than just excellent race shoes.

I've had two pairs of Wildhorse and the Kiger 7s and as much as I've loved the fit and traction on gritstone Peak District hills (not so much on wet grass and heathland, nightmare), I've struggled with durability. After about 140 miles on each pair the area on the inside of the ball of each foot has begun to tear from contact with loose rocks. Maybe a problem more associated with fell running and mountain running, but these are marketed as a mountain running shoe and it's been rather disappointing considering their price point. Currently gluing on some rubber to extend the toe box on these to hopefully keep them going as they're an otherwise great shoe. Like you say, Nike's road technology is world class, but their mountain running kit leaves something to be desired.

React is the dullest midsole material ever, given how much they promoted it. Give me Lunar/Lunarlon any day over React. Even Phylon was better.
I've said it before, apart from their Super Shoes, Nike has lost it. And I've been a Nike fan boy since 1978.

Hey Seth, I run for Fred’s Team and started when my mom was diagnosed with Multiple Myeloma and as result of the blood cancer they discovered many fractures in her sacrum which led to the cancer diagnosis. She and I watch you each morning over coffee before my daily run and she couldn’t believe you have the same injury and she wishes you well. In a way I started running and found DGR because of a fractured sacrum ! Her cancer is at very low levels now and she comes to cheer me on at the NYC Marathon for Freds Team !

I love the terra kiger! I use this as a long run shoe since i love a shoe with ground feel. Ran a 50k in this a few months ago and plan to do another in september. personally think the ride is very soft and nimble. My last pair lasted over 400 miles.

For those of us who could finally afford stuff with React foam in it last year, it's still exciting! Speaking of price point, that's the other reason I've tried Nike trail shoes lately, can't afford Hoka anymore.

QD: your weight doesn't really matter ! Life will be stressful at times but you will make it through! Focus on others more than yourself! And it's OK to make mistakes!

Seth u did not enjoy the React foam but u LOVE the nike pegasus trail and it also has a React foam! It has way more stack though
Interesting how foam amount matters

(I have the pegasus T 3 and I LOVE IT too)

QOD: If I could call my 15 year old self, I’d tell myself that life is going to be just fine as long as you stop worrying about what everyone else thinks about so much. Be you. Your ‘flaws’ are just what make you unique and when you’re authentically yourself your uniqueness allows you to to perfectly be your imperfect self. Self awareness is the key to happiness.

Cheers Seth!

This review is off. I got 800 km on my pair and they are still OK. Airbag is responsive and bouncy. I just ran a 65 km trail run and only problem was I would have liked more rock protection. Wet grip ofc sux.

QD: I'd tell my 15 year old self to stay on the track team and join the XC team, too!

Have the 5’s. I run on rocky, muddy, single track. I can feel every Rock under foot. And as you stated, legs are toast if I run longer than 10 miles in them. Only use them for 5k trail races at this point because I already own them. Will not purchase agian.

I'd want softer for flat surface pavements but softer in trail runners seems like a recipe for disaster as some surfaces could cause your ankles to roll.

Yeah I run in Hoka. They're just more well known as trail shoes. One of the industry standards. Nike would have to overcome that familiarity in the way other companies would have to overcome facilitator with Nike in track.

The problem with the lugs is they get pushed into the airbag, so the traction is not as good as you would expect from the lug layout.

Had the 4s, 6s and two pairs of 7s. Heavily using then for training in winter. They are great in semi to hard packed snow, where Hoka feels just too soft.

At first i loved how the Kigers felt underfoot. But, but... the air zoom unit popped, same as in my Pegs. Even though Nike works for me most of the time, I'll never buy another shoe with Air Zoom units as in the Pegasus and Kigers
