I was married for 21 years. If I’d heard anything like this from my husband, I would’ve fought like hell to save it. My patience was almost limitless, and I was patient for 20 years. But I was never met in the middle. I wasn’t even given a crumb in the last almost 10 yrs. Emotional abuse is just as devastating as physical abuse, and it’s often even more insidious because there are no physical signs — the fresh wounds and the old scars are all inside of me. I look “normal” on the outside to everyone in this world. Been divorced for almost 18 months now. Still hurt, still damaged, still shedding tears, especially when I hear songs like this. Narcissistic abuse and other emotional abuse is no joke. It leaves a lifetime of scars that often no one else sees until they start looking closer. Then they see all the devastation.

Wish every man out there could listen to this song and realize that their significant other (wife, girlfriend, partner, etc.) is waiting patiently for them to come back to being the kind, sensitive and caring man they were at the start of their relationship. Sometimes don't understand why this happens in relationships; why we hurt the ones we love so badly and treat them so carelessly, but love this song because it reminds us all that we need to be held accountable for our part in any relationship. I don't know if this song is coinsiding with what I just did right now...
But I had an unprepared conversation with the man I deeply love yesterday and I just sent him a message letting him know that I have not given up on hope in what I have for him. I'm actually able to say that I have asked God to intervene in our restoration if it be his will. This song came up on my feed as I had just heard a preaching sermon and as I heard the lyrics, I realized how profound it is. If in all sincerity a person comes to realizing how much of importance and significance someone is to you- let them know. You have nothing to lose as you disclose yourself and come to accept where you stand at. Feels good and uplifting. Again, this is a great song and perfect timing for me to have come across to.
