The program enjoyed amazing popularity till the very end, even though certain seasons were more highly acclaimed than others. Michael C. Hall returned to the role of the title serial murderer for Showtime's limited series Dexter: New Blood over ten years later.

Ironically, the purpose of Dexter: New Blood was to provide viewers with closure and a clear, satisfactory conclusion, redeeming the program after its contentious series finale. But instead of doing any of those things, it did the reverse. Although the conclusion of Dexter: New Blood was a huge ratings failure, it also infuriated fans once more. The juggernaut was too strong for Showtime to resist, so it decided to greenlight more Dexter, including a prequel series that revives modern-day Dexter in its first few minutes. This lays the groundwork for the brand-new Dexter: Resurrection sequel series, which is presently in production and will debut in June 2025.

Having said that, Dexter: Original Sin is already more than halfway done, and viewers are eagerly anticipating the next installment. They will have to wait a little while longer to learn what comes next, though. Regretfully, Dexter: Original Sin's seventh episode has been postponed by one week.
