In this video I will show you how to make a super easy kelp farm! I! This will work on any version of Minecraft (Bedrock/Java)

This farm is: (Not including chest and hoppers)
9 Blocks Long
5 Blocks Tall
4 Blocks Wide

MATERIALS
28 Glass
64+21 Building Blocks
6 Pistons
6 Observers
2 Water Buckets
18 Kelp
6 Redstone dust
1 Hopper
2 Chests
(Temporary) 3 Blocks, 6 Half slabs

For Smelting addition:
2 Hoppers
1 Furnace

(Not in video)
If you would like you could add a chest, full of whatever fuel you would like, on top of a hopper that runs into the furnace. This will allow for the furnace to have fuel much longer.

have to say i much prefer smaller creators to the biggers ones, no bs, no dragging out the video, just straight to the point, great job man!

Just a tip, if you want the kelp to cook faster, because it is considered food, you can use a smoker. This will get the kelp to dried kelp 2x faster.

I am an old fart that got minecraft back in June of 09. I have only played vanilla and for a while, left it alone. I am coming back and am learing all the neat things available. I really appreciate that you took the time to make this tutorial. I have built my farm just like you showed and it works great. It has given me an easy build, and one that can be expanded easily without all the materials used by so many.. Thanks, much appreciated.

I've noticed a lot of people use the 3x1 infinite water source when a 2x2 source doesn't break if you take the wrong one. Fill opposite corners, all squares become source.

Thank you!! All the other kelp farms were so complicated. This was very easy and straightforward, and doesn't rely on stuff that will break easily.

First Minecraft creator who does not drag the video for no reason.
Appreciated.
even with the extra Info, you kept it as short as possible
like that.

I watched this whole video before realising I wanted a bamboo farm not kelp. I even searched for kelp farm instead of bamboo farm!!. Great job on the video though, clear and easy to understand and under 5mins, no unnecessary padding for time

im just saying if you do the smelting thing u dont need the 2nd hopper just connect the furnace to the main hopper then a hopper to chest

Just gotta say, this is one of the best minecraft tutorials I've ever seen, super clear direction, super well made, you definitely deserve a lot more subs for sure! Keep it up!

imagine using the same amount of water buckets as a 2x2 and still have to take the water from a certain block - this comment was posted by the 2x2 gang (everything else was good though)

If you make this make sure to put plenty of torches around so that the kelp can grow at night time as well.

My world would have suffered without your video! Lol

I just made this but made it to hold 11 plants. I then just extended the water out a bit more and it works well so far. Thanks for the good guide.

If you're creating this farm in 1.21+, you can also bring in a crafter on a simple redstone clock and not only automate your cooking, but automate your block making on top of it! It's not necessary to make the system work, but it can save you the time and trips of handcrafting.

For people who are worrying why the kelp isnt floating up straight away just give it a minute or so and it should float up I'm not sure why it does this but this video is really good!

Let me preface this with how great this video is - it is short, detailed and easy to follow. The machine does actually work. However, I wanted to leave my findings from my own expierences, maybe someone has a better solution - this is just my notes.

For anyone saying that they arent getting the full 12 piece yield.

Version 1.1.8
Places where I built these: FTB Endeavor, Dire Wolf, Java 1.18 etc.

Soul sand doesn't work for me. I tried other blocks at least 20 of them and it did the same thing, not all the help made it and it would despawn before more kelp grew. The machine works as intended and it will yield a 7/12 ratio, which is decent if you are willing to overlook the 5 pieces lost due to despawn.

I have tried placing water on the pistons themselves to create water source blocks, however the pistons will take those out when the kelp is harvested so back to square one. I have tried not having a roof on it - Dont unless you like glowing squid or other things dropping into your machine. I did replace the roof with glass to allow more light - it showed some promise in growth <shrugs> depends on the world seed more than anything

Soul Sand tips did not work still left with the same problem. I did remove and replace the water - again same result the kelp will sometimes not go to the right side unless new kelp growth pushes the pieces before they despawn.

I then built a structure, with an interior size of 8 blocks by 8 blocks, 4 blocks high. with outer chamber, placed a safety ladder on the inside with a way to get out. The chamber creates an air pocket in the wall at the base, planted the kelp on sand - not only did it grow faster - but I got a higher yield. Its manual labor but easy to get in cut the kelp and get out, you have two ways to get air swim up to the ledge of the fourth block or dive down into the air pocket where the entrance is both work fine.

While my system is not automated, I can assure you its a higher yield and I got all the kelp pieces as well as it took less than a minute to harvest it and throw it in the chest in the base - you can expand the ante chamber to house a smelting system if you so wish. I am currently reverse engineering what my husband made and its not looking bad.

Also note it was easier to build my structure using Stone for Stone Bricks and Sand for Glass and Oak for the wood, easy to farm.

Good luck everyone and may the roads you travel be paved with brightest of blessings - may your worries be few. Stay safe out there.
