I dunno what year it was but I was in southern France on holiday, and the weather was crap, so I decided to head back north, and on the way by chance saw a poster advertising Le Mans that weekend . Got to Le Mans, didn't know where to go, so I latched onto the back of another GB car. Ended up in a big field off to the left halfway down the Mulsanne straight . That afternoon, the other end of the field filled with gendarmes, and soon there was a football game -English vs gendermerie. I broke the heel off my shoe while playing . Jags won the race and Jan Lammers was on the podium and threw his Jag cap out into the crowd . At 6ft3 I easily grabbed it :)

My favorite race car of all time. Loved watching those Jags when I was a kid at the Camel GT-PIR. I remember being fascinated with the piss flaps and how no other car on the track had them. The XJR9 looked like a space ship.

As an American boy NASCAR was the only motorsports that was ever broadcasted on basic TV regularly. With the exception of the Indy 500. I always liked NASCAR back then but as soon as I went to my first Camel GT my perspective on auto racing changed.

At the time I didn’t know much if anything about endurance racing or 24 hour races. I’d seen pics of what I know now as Group C/GTP cars in some European motorsports magazines my friends dad had.

It was really mind blowing to me that those GTP cars with Headlights and windshield wipers didn’t stop racing because it got dark or started raining like NASCAR or Indy would.

It just seemed so exotic to me....So European. I fell in love with sports car racing because of those Jags.

In memory of Tom Walkinshaw and this nice area of the REAL racing cars with real gearboxes, real GOOD drivers who had the sense of the mechanic and when engines were differents and made lots different and GOOD noises... 😉🏎️🏁🤓🇨🇵

I always rooted for jag at Watkins Glen late 80s to mid 90s when I was a kid but the Nissan cars always seemed to win.

They simply don't make race cars like this anymore. They refuse to do it. Too many women drivers and women sitting in the chairs calling shots. Too many women in development making safety cars for sissied out "men" to ride along side a robotic "race car."

Most drivers today wouldn't even be able to figure how to change from 1st to 2nd gear.. "Where's the paddles?? Buttons??? It's automatic, right???? Do I have to steer??"

Racing has become sissy.
