Ancient whale discovered in Peru is most massive animal in Earth's history, scientists say

Scientists put on display fossils of an ancient whale unearthed in Ica, Peru called Perucetus colossus that lived about 38-40 million years ago during the Eocene epoch.

The researchers estimated that Perucetus was about 20 metres long and weighed up to 340 metric tons, a mass that would exceed any other known animal including today's blue whale and the largest dinosaurs.

I always found it to be strange that the Blue Whale was the largest animal, even though prehistoric animals were typically larger than most current animals.

They classify it as a whale. But then the computer imagery they put out makes it look a lot more like an oversized manatee.

340 tons is 680, 000 Ibs.
The largest blue whale on record if I remember correctly was about 210 tons Which is 420, 000 Ibs.

I personally found the petrified remains of a Whale in Texas, just a few miles North of Big Bend National Park. It is without any doubt ; The Largest fossil of a Whale anyone has found to date. I will return to this page to post the GPS location of that Whale. Iy can be found on Google Earth. The measurement of the Whale Fossil is 1.9 MILES. YES !!! You read it correctly. 1.9 Miles long.
