Many many moons ago I was part of an exercise where they flew us from Ft. Bragg to Adak Alaska to defend the Aleutians. Talk about the middle of nowhere. It was questionable if we could even land for several hours since the winds were so high.
Was surprised how well our ancient cold weather gear and bunny boots worked. Shocking how awful the sleeping bags and tents were. Aluminum poles just bent and split in those permanent wind conditions. Needless to say, we were thrilled when it came time to leave.

Anytime I see troops in one of these transports, I'm reminded of when I was a kid evacuating from Nha Trang to Saigon, then from Saigon to the Philippines on C-130s. Then to Guam and then the states on C-141s. The webbing on the seats were too wide for my tiny frame, and it was very uncomfortable. It was the first time, I knew what back pain was so on all four flights, I dreaded having to sit on those seats. For soldiers with their gears, I don't think they would be too uncomfortable, but those seats were not designed for a small boy. I've always wondered, are these seats better now.
