Funny thing, I've heard of this monster as a kid but was never given a story or explanation. Come to find out my mother and grandmother, the ones who scared me into obedience with el cucuy, have no clue what it is. I'm 26 now and it's 3am, feels like a sleepy victory!

Huh, strange. My parents usually described El Cucuy as decrepit old man with thinning long hair, sunk in eyes and really long and sharp nails. They'd say if I misbehaved he would come to our house and take me away.

oooh The Cucuy. When I was little if I ever wanted to go into a room when the lights were off, I was afraid the Cucuy was hiding in the dark. So I would race past the light switch to flip it on and then double back once the room was lite up. Anyone else do this or some other funny stuff to avoid El Cucuy?
