King Charles grants the Duke of Edinburgh title to Prince Edward

King Charles III has given his youngest brother Prince Edward the title of the Duke of Edinburgh.

Passing on a title held by their late father Prince Philip for more than 70 years.

It's a tremendously deserved award. KC dragged his feet on this, so I was starting to believe he wouldn't give Duke of Edinburgh to Prince Edward.

Also interesting: It was granted as a non-hereditary title, which used to be uncommon so far in the royal family. That means after Edward's death the title can not be passed on to his children. I guess the era of hereditary royal dukedoms is now over in the UK too, same as in all the other European monarchies.
