Came for the perfumes, stayed for the refreshing perfect French pronunciation of French perfumes, tickles a spot I didn't think I had

Great recommendations, Sam! 😊 I agree with you about Hermès and Poivre Samarcande is absolutely stunning! Unfortunately it’s a little too pricey, but I wanna give my BF a sample of Piper Nigrum and see how he likes it!

I have a bottle of Piper Nigrum. You didn't mention how challenging the opening is. Piper Nigrum is really a tale of two tales: the opening and the drydown. The opening is pungent, weirdly herbal green and frankly challenging. Its sometimes described as smelling something like rotting vegetables. While I don't think it's that harsh, there is a bit of putridity that is somewhat off-putting. Interesting, but a bit off-putting. Some have described the smell of an Indian grocery, even curry. Some as medicinal. I assume it is some combination of the "green notes", watercress, rosemary, fennel, even the mint and whatever else in the opening. I'm not sure whether to admire some sort creative artistic perfumery or simply chalk the opening up to a mistake of combining the wrong herbs. I'm a ScentWimp and typically perceive challenging as bad. Thankfully, the better Angel's of Piper Nigrum's nature reveal themselves gradually through the drydown. As the putrid herbal influence of the opening recedes, the straightforward pleasantness of the sweet spices, licorice-like anise, amber and resins come to the fore and dominate. A transformation into a completely different fragrance takes place through its lifecycle. Even the mint note manifests differently amidst the now-dominant sweet cinnamon, cloves and anise. It's in this drydown that its profile more closely resembles Creed Viking, or Costume National Homme, or even a traditional Bay Rum. It's not really ever that similar to Viking, but it does share that mentholation, sweet spices and pepper. Very nice. I just wish the perfumer had done something different with the opening.

I'm a novice to perfumes/fragrances, I'm trying to stay away from musks. I like peppery scents & fruity things too. The 2 I've purchased so far that I like are Commes Des Garcons Black & Cartier Noir Absolu (but it's too sweet, sickly even)..oh and Brioni with an apple scent I like (but it doesn't last). I really want a unique, subtle & long lasting tropical fruit..I bought something from Day Three for a mango but I didn't like it. I do like the La Tacita .. I'm a music dude and wanted to try to find something that Dave Gahan & Bryan Ferry would wear. I also like something with a sharp metallic vibe floral Atomic Rose.

Not sure if you get Chris Collins perfumes in Europe, but lust oud delice is amazing! Also aides de venutas coral azur and cafe tabac are great as well. I've been meaning to pull the trigger on Les Abstraits dos cedres as well. Great selection.

Im a guy and i often try to go outside my comfort zone, but i always keep returning to mostly woody-spicy aromatics. However, sometimes i love a good grand chypre, Ylang 49 by Le Labo is one of my recent loves.

i just started wearing no.5 on valentine's day. i blind bought myself a bottle of the edp and was addicted from first wear. since then i've purchased a vintage edp, a bottle of the edt, and as well a vintage unopened (still) extrait. i find the edt to be almost traditionally masculine in comparison to the edp.

but what i'm wearing at the moment, sealed for the last SEVENTY years until today... balenciaga quadrille... who do i think i even am to open this bottle? i have more nerve than dick tracy to open this bottle. i'm like one of those out of control teenagers on jenny jones "i drink, i smoke, i do drugs, i have sex, i call my mother a b-word, i open sealed bottles of 70 year old pure parfums".

but on the other hand scents are made to be worn. so. i am wearing the heck out of this quadrille while i vacuum and do laundry.
