3 Tests for Carpal Tunnel Syndrome [Music Video]
Показать описание
Three DIY tests to see if you have carpal tunnel syndrome.
I am almost finished with my first year of PT School at NYU. I made this video as a fun extra credit project for kinesiology class and decided to share it here as well in case it is helpful to anyone.
The "carpal tunnel" is a narrow passageway through If anyone suspects they may have carpal tunnel syndrome, you can try these three "special tests" on your own. A "positive" result means that the test exacerbates the numbness (tingling) or pain in your hand. The sensation will be on the palm side, in the thumb and index finger. It may also include the middle and 1/2 of the ring finger as well (but most likely NOT your pinky). This is the median nerve distribution in the hand - excluding the palmar cutaneous branch, which does not run through the carpal tunnel.
The three tests are:
Phalen's Test
Tinel's Sign
Carpal Compression Test
Each test on its own is not an absolute indicator, but if all three tests give you a "positive" result, then it is probably a good idea to visit a physical therapist for a proper diagnosis and treatment. The physical therapist will ask you about the history of your symptoms, which will help him/her make an informed diagnosis.
