The little match seller, 1902

Показать описание
This is a silent movie created in 1902 by James Williamson. In this short film the director fables the classic story of Christian Andersen. I created the music for this film. For the little girl's sad passage I din't want to "sing" a lament, but a lullaby, a traditional greek lullaby, anywise in greek mythology Hypnos (Sleep) was a brother of Thanatos (Death). And certainly when a child passes away, only lullabies people have to croon.
The lyrics of the lullaby are these
(I will try to make a translation) :
"Hypne (sleep) who you take the kids
come take this too
so little(young) it was when I gave it to you
and big(old) bring it back to me
Big as the high mountain
upright like a cypress
its boughs to spread
to the East and the West"
