When it comes to trendy items such as red tights, I just tell myself I don't need to own a specific piece to appreciate it. I can just admire something from afar. That has saved me many times lol

I had the skinny glasses as a dorky middle schooler and I know that if I put on a pair today I would instantly look like a nerdy 12-year-old again

I like the skinny glasses trend because they subvert that "nerdy" association into something cool, sexy and intentional, rather than what your parents made you wear as a tween. It makes sense that they are making a comeback because they have been so out of style for so long that people looking for a new way to be unique and expressive can reach for nostalgic items like these and change the narrative around them into something current!

As a lawyer that doesn’t like having to buy clothes they can’t wear to work, I love corpcore. Now I can wear my work clothes to everything and be fashionable on a technicality!

to me those skinny glasses are intrinsically linked with the bayonetta games

The photo of Lauryn Hill from 1998 being used to illustrate a 2023 trend is such a perfect distillation of how fashion cycles work, I love it

I remember when ballet flats and Toms flat shoes were all the rage and my lasting impression of them was that it made people’s feet smell like bio chemical weapons of war 🤢

i love the term "corporate overlord chic" and i feel like it should be the corporate-core style + Fantasy Evil. like, gimme a job interview outfit with a black cape or like a high velvet collar and i will gladly be your minion

I actually am so glad to hear someone say they dislike the ballet flat and adidas sambas trend.
I really think they’re so underwhelming and overhyped!

I loved this as someone who wears polka dots ballet flats and off the shoulder tops

I’m 45 and it seems to me that more than ever, fashion is at an “anything goes “ standpoint.
People can basically wear anything these days which is great !

I think part of why I dislike polka dots and ballet flats (on myself, anyway) is because I was big into the tumblr/twee fashion in the early 2010’s and those were wardrobe staples. There are certain tumblr fashion tends that I still really love, but twee just doesn’t do anything for me anymore.

I started laughing out loud about the middle aged Catholic school teacher and the long denim skirt. EXACTLY. I tried one and it gave precisely those vibes. No thank you.

i noticed how diverse the sizes and races of the women in your reference pics were – a very small detail but much appreciated bc we are so used to seeing the same font of fashion influencers!

I have been wearing colourful/patterned tights consistently for 5+ years and I love styling my outfits around them, but for some reason only had one pair of wine-colored patterend tights in my collection. Now I have been reminded to finally get some plain red tights and I love them!! Nothing wrong with "buying into trends" if you know your style well enough

As a former dorky girl with very bad vision, the skinny glasses trend confused me as well. However, I have come to love it as a form of reclamation and overcoming the pain of fearing what is considered, "cringe." It's also reminscent of like, "2001 rom-com heroine has just been hired into her first big-city role..."

Also, those sneakers are way cuter than other sneakers imo, they look more feminine, low-key, put-together, and serious than the other options, which feel clunkier/less mature (however, the extra weight they provide matches the preferences you alluded to earlier in the vid).

I’m feeling so zen about how much I don’t want Sambas. As someone who watches a lot of older movies, to me they’re just associated with a 1970s skinny guy in a tracksuit with a bad haircut. I have my signature sneakers and they’re good buds.

A good way of recreating the red tights look would be with another color tights you already have. Start a new trend with your existing purple tights that you own while saving your money and not being embarrassed next year when red tights are “so 2023!”

The visceral reaction I have with the skinny glasses as the dorky kid who had them in 4th/5th grade is so real. Like I think some people can pull them off, but I absolutely can not get behind them for myself and will happily stick with my round wire rims thank you
Edit: grammar lol

I'm surprised that there aren't more varied examples of the red tights outfit, I never noticed how similar (but cute) most of the looks really are. I used to have a burgundy pair of tights that I would usually pair with other jewel tones, especially navy blue or green. I kinda wanna see some red tights paired with other primary colors!

your reasoning about denim maxis makes me realize part of why i like a lot of "modest" fashion: I wasn't forced to wear it growing up😬it might be a different story otherwise
