Classic raindrop shape is actually a very short moment of a drip

That explains why some raindrops feel like a slap. Some of them are actually doing a belly flop onto you.

This video taught me that big water droplets are just cluster bombs

A classmate of mine did experiments with water droplets. He would drop them through the center of a 4 story tall stairwell in the science building. He took pictures every 2 meters or so, to see how it changed as it sped up.

Cartoon rain is when the water is dripping from something right before it falls because the waters surface tension means that the part stuck to the surface is above the rest before the weight of the water unsticks it.

I've somehow always saw the "raindrop" cartoon representation as more of a "teardrop" due to how streaking tears look way more like it than actual falling rain drops

The classic raindrop shape we all know is from the moment the raindrop separates from the source which creates a tail.

Nah, looking at his mother (and noting the absense of a father) tells me *everything* I need to know.

The classic cartoonish raindrop is drawn like that to look like it’s in motion. In a still picture, nothing moves so you need to depict that motion somehow. Otherwise, you get an art piece covered in small floating circles.

I believe the raindrop/teardrop figure derives from a faucet drip shape. It's easily understood in that form and easily adapted to other graphic uses.

They look like beautiful marbles. It’s cool though because when water starts to drip it’s that shape but then as it falls (or in this case rises) it spins into a little circle

Proceeds to show us a typical raindrop after saying they aren't shaped like raindrops. Those at the end looked like raindrops to me.

Fun Fact: Freefalling through raindrops hurts and will leave raindrop bruises on your skin.

Any shape the raindrop is is raindrop shaped, so they technically are raindrop shaped.

As a skydiver, you definitely don't want to fall with rain. It does hurt.

The reason we think of them in that classic shape is because that's what they look like when they hit a surface and drip down
