I know lots of people want exact answers, so we try to give them when we can... but a lot of the time the answer really is "it depends". Please let us know if you have more questions! There are some things I promise I can answer in detail! haha
Also please note that when we say dollars, think of a bit less than US dollars. Often in Korea, especially when speaking English, we'll drop the three zeros of the price in Won, and then say dollars as it's a rough estimate of conversion. So it's a bit more than Australian or Canadian dollars but a bit less that US dollars. We explained that in previous video but forgot to in this one.

If they had the renting system they have here in Korea, in Australia, I could have owned a home by now in Australia. I’m lucky that my work pays for my place here in Korea. But I feel I have been able to save more money here in Korea than I ever could or did in Australia. However I live in the countryside, Gyeongsangnamdo, Hapcheon-gun.
For a perspective I feel utilities (gas/electricity etc) are cheaper than Australia. Food can be a little expensive, grocery wise, but to eat out it can be cheaper. I find transportation costs cheaper too and way more efficient.

I live on Jeju in the country side with my Koream husband and it is much cheaper here. We have a three bedroom house that is weatern style with a big yard. We spend no more than 100 k won a month. For those we dont care about nightlife and living faraway from conviences like emart, the countryside is the best!

Well I live down south in the Gumi area with my Korean wife. I pay 370, 00W a month or about $310.00 US. I have a 5, 000, 000W deposit and have been living here going on three years on my monthly retirement check. I pay on average about 400, 000W a month in utilities including cell phone and internet/cable. It costs about as much to go out and eat good as to stay home and eat good. I have Korean government sponsored medical insurance which is very affordable, and have had excellent service. So stay out of the big cities and live comfortably in small town Korea.

I found for the most part that Seoul was cheaper than life in Metropolitan Australia, although when you consider the smaller incomes it kinda equals out to be about the same. Somethings I found a bit expensive - groceries and produce are a bit pricey, particularly when you consider the lower wage.

Wow. When you said 600 a month! In Melbourne now it's around 550 a WEEK for a really run down dingy place in the inner western suburbs ( the sketchy side of the West)

Omg thank you for answering my question about the spigots! I thought the low spigots might be for feet and cabbages! And I don't like the smell of fish either, especially mackerel (bad childhood experience), so that makes a lot of sense...

Thank you so much for making these videos! I love that you are honest and give your full impression without generalising too much 😊💕

To answer short: it’s expensive to live in big cities - especially the Gangnam area of Seoul. However it’s dirt cheap in the country side.

The moving vlog I'm most looking forward to is seeing what you come up with for Yul's new bedroom. That's the room where I suspect you'll bring out the whimsical creativity.

My husband's family live in an apartment in Pohang. Three bedroom two bathroom. Sound proof was great! Heard nothing while we were staying there

This is so informative! I love it!
I had no experience looking for an actual apartment myself here, as we did not move for 4 years (Gyu lived there before I moved in, lol) but I hope we can get a bigger place soon as well!
I have heard many people being brought to horrible places and said "this is all we have" but as Nichola mentioned, you should not settle for the first thing they are going to show you as there are better options.

I really love the apartment you choose too! <3

haha, that beeping from outside got me laughing :)

ooh, you can actually take an insurance on the jeonsae deposit! that is really good to know. Would you go through an insurance broker to get that insurance? Or through the bank?
About those dodgy places that real estate agencies will show you first: can you actually haggle the rent price to get a real dirt cheap rent? Not that I'd actually go live in a dodgy place, but I'm curious about it.
I also enjoy watching house tours or apartment tours. It's fascinating to see how people make the most of their space - whether they have a lot to spare or not at all.

Thanks for the video :) looking forward to the next one ;-)

Nicola, Suggestion! for next time - an 'interview' format with Hugh. Or a mixture with of voice over chosen vlogs. More work for the 'editor'. Good piece to camera nevertheless. Stay Safe.
