10 Levels of Sleight of Hand: Palming Cards

Credits:
This routine is a combination of many tricks: Larry Jennings' Open Travelers, Darwin Ortiz's Hitchcock Aces, and of course the classic MacDonald's Aces. It also includes techniques by Alex Elmsley, Ed Marlo, and S.W. Erdnase (if you know where to look...).

Also, the goal of this video is not to expose or teach magic techniques. I was very careful in the construction of this routine to not explain any sleight-of-hand that is not already widely taught online or implicitly explained in the standard presentation of Open Travelers. Laypeople intuitively understand the concept of palming a card (I know because I make a living performing for laypeople), and discussing that concept is not tantamount to exposure. Hopefully, I've kept enough secrets to preserve the overall mystery of the classic effects that I have woven together in this video.

"Level 1 and level 2 are only good for magic tricks"

(proceeds to do magic tricks through all levels)

My brain can't comprehend what is going on. I'm convinced he's doing real magic while pretending its sleight of hand.

Perhaps more accurately titled “4 Levels of Palming Cards and 6 Levels of Misdirection”

My favorite part of these “10Levels” series videos is the big “WTF?” jumps between the mundane to Daniel being a real wizard.

One of my favorite videos from back in the day was Wayne Houchin’s performance of the invisible palm. Your performance here elevates that to a whole new level!

5:35 I'm forever in this moment trying to figure out how it was done

This is unreal! I mean everything we have seen from him, was already mind blowing, but now it got even better. Again!

that series of invisible palms blew my mind before i knew how it was done, and after thinking about it and figuring it out, it blew my mind all over again. your execution is so unbelievably clean.

I do love me some close up magic. Up to level 7 i believe i know "what" you did, but you're way to good for me to see "how" you did it. Excellent job, sir!!

I normally don't like "ten levels of [thing]" videos. But this one's good, because it's using that framework to do a single magic routine, using the audience expectation of what a Ten Levels Of video is supposed to be as misdirection.

I can tell that everything is done on purpose, yet I still can ask, "HOW?!?!?!"

I love this! You're the best, Mr. Roy!

These videos are so fun to watch knowing a few things myself. It's very nice to see how clean he is with all the moves I can spot and the best part is thinking I caught him because I saw a few moves and misdirections and then there's another layer and it just one ups what I thought he did to leave me stumped again :D so good

Just want to recognize the tens of 1000s of hours it took for Mr. Roy to get to this level.

I thought I was a master sleuth when I easily saw through #5. Then this bastard hit me with #6!
Yes I saw through #6 as well but I didn’t actually see him do it.
From #7 on, excellent work!!

I was reminded of a David Blaine card routine where he did the same trick he’s been doing for twenty years but always presented in a wonderfully new way.

3:11 Man the presentation here is so slick that it blew my mind. Obviously I knew you weren't actually palming the card invisibly but the way you presented the card in your left hand as the card to be "palmed" got me. I was thinking it had to be something with the last hand movement you did before "palming" it at 3:11 but in reality by the time you drew attention to that card, the real card had already been transferred and everything else was just an illusion. Well done sir. 3:50 gave the trick away though, at least for me.

Edit: Also 4:07 is similar, the misdirect by saying the king of hearts is on top of the deck is slick.
